These so called ‘sugar skulls,’ which are a staple of the three day Mexican festival, are hand poured from 2 troy ounces of 999 fine silver. Each sugar skull is intricately decorated with filigree designs and a beautiful rose on the forehead.
The skulls vary in toning from black and grey to a rainbow effect, as handcrafted by monarch precious metals. Hand stamped on the back of each art bar are the words ‘2 Troy Ounces, 999 Fine Silver;’ each piece is 1.5 inches in length, 1 inch wide and 0.375 inches thick.
In tradition, each sugar skull represents one departed soul; family members will write the name of the loved one on the forehead of the skull and, having placed it at the grave or ‘home ofrenda’ of the departed, await their return during the festival.
