Scottsdale Mint, on behalf of the People’s Republic of Chad, began their Egyptian Relic series in 2016 and this coin, along with a coincident release of the same coin with a fresh face, is the fifth masterpiece in the range.
From the obverse, a haunting relic greets us, in the form of a fleshless portrait of Pharaoh Ramesses II of Egypt.
Designed to appear as if freshly snatched from a royal resting place, the field is adorned with astonishingly realistic cracks, chisel marks and faded hieroglyphs, as well as the Pharaoh’s name, which is the only text on the obverse.
The reverse is home to Chad’s beautiful coat of arms, a lion and a goat upholding the shield, with a banner bearing the watchwords, ‘Unite, Travail, Progres’ below.
Also on the reverse, you’ll find Chad’s legend, as well as the coin’s purity, weight, denominational value and year of release, 2017.
