In 2014, The Perth Mint's internationally renowned Australian Lunar Silver Proof Coin Series II celebrates the Year of the Horse, the seventh animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.
These superb, gilded, proof releases are perfect for people born in "horse" years - 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002 and those yet to be born in 2014 - who are regarded as hardworking, sociable, optimistic and energetic.
The reverse was designed by Tom Vaughan and depicts two horses by a stream, one drinking, the other standing. They are surrounded by trees, and rocks. The horses themselves are gilded (covered in gold). The traditional Perth mintmark, a simple "P" is inscribed as well as the Chinese character for "horse" and the inscription "Year of the Horse". The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II Australia 1 oz 999 Silver 2014 1 Dollar".
This very limited issue proof coin is gilded in 24 carat gold and is made from 999 pure silver. The mintage is limited to 47,500 worldwide.
This coin comes with a serialized certificate of authenticity in a red clamshell case inside a printed horse sleeve.
