In 2014, The Perth Mint's internationally renowned Australian Lunar Silver Proof Coin Series II celebrated the Year of the Horse, the seventh animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.
These superb, gilded, proof releases are perfect for people born in "horse" years - 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002 and in 2014 - who are regarded as hardworking, sociable, optimistic and energetic.
The reverse was designed by Tom Vaughan and depicts two horses by a stream, one drinking, the other standing. They are surrounded by trees, and rocks. The horses themselves are gilded (covered in gold). The traditional Perth mintmark, a simple "P" is inscribed as well as the Chinese character for "horse" and the inscription "Year of the Horse". The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II Australia 1 oz 999 Silver 2014 1 Dollar."
This very limited issue proof coin is gilded in 24-carat gold and is made from 999 pure silver. It comes sealed in an NGC coin holder and is an Early Release MS 69 graded numismatic! This near perfect coin is truly a collector's piece.
