In 2014, The Perth Mint's internationally renowned Australian Lunar Silver Series II celebrated the Year of the Horse, the seventh animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.
These superb, colourized releases are perfect for people born in "horse" years - 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002 and 2014 - who are regarded as hardworking, sociable, optimistic and energetic.
The reverse was designed by Tom Vaughan and depicts two horses by a stream, one drinking, the other standing. They are surrounded by trees, and rocks. The horses themselves are detailed in enamel. The traditional Perth mintmark, a simple "P" is inscribed as well as the Chinese character for "horse" and the inscription "Year of the Horse". The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II Australia 1 oz 999 Silver 2014 1 Dollar".
This very limited issue silver coin is intricately detailed with enamel and is made from 999 pure silver.
