Specifications

This coin is the third of the Megafauna series. This remarkable series goes back in Australia's history to discover larger-than-life animals that once roamed the land. The Genyornis was one such flightless bird of heavy build, standing more than two meters tall, with tiny wings, massive hind legs and hoof-like toes. Fossils of the Genyornis have been found in association with human artifacts, including cave paintings and carved footprints suggesting co-existence with humans. Their fossils have been found in groups as well, suggesting they were social creatures, like the emu.

The obverse The obverse of the coin features the Ian-Rank Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II Australia 2014 1 Dollar".

The reverse was designed by paleo-artist Peter Trusler and features a struck Genyornis set against a coloured grove background with unhatched eggs at its feet. The words "Genyornis" is engraved above and below are the words "1 oz 999 Silver" and the traditional "P" mintmark.

This look at Australia's past is made from 999 pure silver and comes encapsulated in a grey clamshell case with a numbered certificate of authenticity. With a very low mintage of only 6,500 this look at fauna of days past is a great addition to any pre-historic, wildlife or silver collection.
