The maple leaf is a powerful Canadian national symbol. Its popularity is due in large part to its involvement in the everyday lives of Canadians. The 1 kilogram Maple Leaf Forever Silver Proof coin is only the third coin by the Royal Canadian Mint to feature enamel. The green and red enamel maple leaves reflect the ever changing nature of Canada's national symbol throughout the seasons with the rays of sunshine in the background accented with alternating matte and brilliant finishes. The maple shaped the lives of Canada's first settlers and explorers in countless ways that later became synonymous not only with the country, but Canada's people as well as a symbol of both hope and opportunity.
The obverse of the coin features the standard Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II 250 Dollars D.G. Regina 2014".
The reverse of the coin features a depiction by Canadian artist Pierre Leduc of two maple leaves in tremendous detail, filled with translucent enamel. One leaf is red, the other green, both with deep beauty to reflect the ever changing beauty of the maple throughout the seasons. Each leaf is beautifully detailed and the translucent enamel combined with the detailed silver vein engraving give a level of beauty rarely seen. The background features rays, like the rising sun with alternating matte and brilliant finishes to complete the sunrise in the fall effect that is sure to be a collector favourite. The words "Canada Fine Silver 1 kg Argent Pur 9999" and the artist's initials complete the design.
Each proof coin is made with 1 kg of 9999 pure silver. With a worldwide mintage of only 600 this beautiful collector's piece is sure to sell out quickly.
Each proof coin comes encapsulated in a maple finished clamshell box with a certificate of authenticity.
