Specifications

Spiders are the engineers of nature. Because they are everyday and commonplace it is easy to lose sight of how wonderful their webs are. The fibres of a web are one of the strongest substances on Earth. They are patterned together in a geometric fashion that is intuitively strong and flexible at the same time. The radial patterns that the spider intuitively uses to form his web is an engineering marvel that continues to mesmerize the architectural world.

The Spider and web is the second coin featuring Canada's animal architects. This coin was designed by Canadian artist Yves Berube and the reverse features an overhead view of a painted spider on an intricate and beautifully symmetric web. The spider is off to one side eagerly anticipating its prey. It also features the words "3 Dollars 2014 Canada". The obverse displays the signature Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II D.G. Regina". It is limited to a mintage of 10,000.

This coin is 9999 pure silver and comes in a clamshell maroon case and has a serialized certificate.
