Specifications

The Krugerrand was first minted in 1967 to help South Africa market its gold. The Krugerrand is one of the most popular gold bullion coins in the world, having accounted for around 90% of the global gold coin by 1980. This coin is synonymous with quality and reliability.

COIN HIGHLIGHTS

  • Individual coins ship in plastic flip sleeve
  • Consisting of 1/10 oz 9167 Fine Gold
  • Obverse: Features a depiction Paul Kruger, the final president of the former South African Republic, along with the inscriptions "SUID-AFRIKA" and "SOUTH AFRICA"

It is produced by the Rand Refinery in Germiston, a city in the East Rand of Gauteneng in South Africa. The name itself is a combination of "Kruger" (a past president of South Africa) and "Rand", the South African currency. The Krugerrand is minted from a more durable copper-gold alloy often referred to as "crown's gold" because of its use in English gold sovereigns, among others. It is 91.67% (22 karat) gold and 8.33% copper.

These coins are discounted as they may be tarnished, scratched or visibly handled.

Weight and purity are guaranteed but year and condition are subject to availability.

ABOUT THE RAND REFINERY

Established in Germiston, South Africa, in 1920, The Rand refinery was constructed to efficiently maximize the abundant quantities of gold present in the beautiful African nation. The Rand refinery became globally recognized as the sole refiner and producer of the world's first bullion coin, the Gold Krugerrand, possibly the most recognizable bullion coin in the world. In addition to the production of the Krugerrand, the Rand Refinery is also responsible for the production of sleek, elegantly styled gold ingots.
